Manufacturing and Assembly

Maxima’s global 6-Sigma & Lean manufacturing and assembly capability is regarded as world-class by our customers.

WORLD-CLASS CAPABILITIES
Maxima's 6-sigma and Lean manufacturing and assembly capabilities complement our emphasis on market-driven, innovative designs, resulting in products that are on-target with respect to goals for PPMs and customer expectations.  Examples of capabilities are as follows:
  • Automation and "pockets of automation" (POA) aimed at error-proofing and maximum rolled throughput yield (RTY)
  • One-piece synchronous flow, as opposed to batch builds, for improved cycle times, flexibility and quality
  • Vision systems (computerized inspections, as well as value-added functions such as calibration and pointer staking)
  • Assembly equipment and fixtures developed in-house by 6-Sigma trained technicians; also develop software code for machine control
  • Computer-controlled, mechanized transfer lines
  • Hard and soft coded pallets for automated material transfer
  • Laser engraving to ensure integrity of product ID and traceability
  • Single-minute exchange dies (SMED) (set-ups in <60 seconds)
  • End-of-line (EOL) testing based on customer vibration profiles, with Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) per control plans
  • Pre-production process prove-out (4-P) before launch
  • Kaizen blitzes for rapid continual improvements
  • State-of-the-art SMT line

GLOBAL OPERATIONS
Maxima’s plants are located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA; Juarez, Mexico; and Rubi (Barcelona), Spain. We also maintain a warehouse operation in El Paso, Texas for our Stewart Warner aftermarket business. As a result, Maxima is well positioned to support global customers with “local” resources, thus providing a significant benefit to our customers.

Beginning in 2008, Maxima will launch an operation in Taicang, China.  See our press release for more details.

Each operation is a “center of excellence” for the following capabilities:

  • Lancaster: One-piece synchronous flow, automation and “pockets of automation” (POA); SMT lines; cluster-display production; development shop capability (fixture designand production)
  • Barcelona: Mechanized cluster/display transfer lines; battery monitoring system processing; prototype tooling; POA
  • Juarez: Sender production; component assembly; one-piece synchronous flow; POA

MANUFACTURING PLANNING
Maxima’s advanced manufacturing engineers, development shop technicians and quality engineers support new product development, using 6-Sigma tools. Design-for-Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/DFA) techniques are employed to ensure high-quality, repeatable processes.

QUALITY SYSTEMS
Maxima’s quality systems are based on ISO 9001: 2000 and 6-Sigma. We are currently pursuing TS 16949 certifications.

LEAN MANUFACTURING
Maxima’s is committed to “Lean" manufacturing, defined as the process to continually improve productivity, reduce lead-time and eliminate waste, using 6-Sigma tools and processes, that directly benefits our customers. Interested in learning more?  Visit us today.

Maxima's newest SMT line is state-of-the-art, producing upwards of 120,000 components per hour thanks to best-in-class placement head tact time.  Our equipment is leading-edge—among the first of its kind in the state of Pennsylvania.  Additionally, we offer a second SMT line now used for low-volume production, thus providing an efficient means to support customers affected by fluctuating demand and/or the transition to legacy status.  New for 2007: Advanced soldering technology that eliminates the typical variation associated with conventional soldering practice.

LAUNCH SUPPORT
Maxima's teams support new product launches, including on-site staffing, as required. This support extends to OEMs, as well as products that Maxima initiates for its OEM and aftermarket customers.

GLOBAL SUPPLY CHAIN
Maxima’s operations are supported by a worldwide network of capable suppliers. If you’re interested in becoming a supplier, e-mail sourcing@maximatech.com.

DEVELOPMENT SHOP
Maxima’s development shop capability is unique. We design, develop, build and program our automated lines and assembly equipment using in-house professionals, resulting in a high degree of speed and quality control.
