Rich Heritage

Maxima’s brands have a long history, with over 100 years of exellence in instrumentation solutions.

GENESIS OF MAXIMA
Maxima was formed as the combination of three well-regarded companies that possessed a rich heritage dating to 1892. The subsequent integration of the best practices from all 3 companies, coupled with Maxima’s rapid evolution as an innovative electronics company, has contributed to the unique ability to provide our customers with the “Best-of-Maxima” in all aspects of our business, whether related to products or services.

ORIGINS OF THE BRANDS
DATCON:  An acronym for “Dimensional And Time CONtrol”, Datcon was formed in 1970 when Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster,
PA spun off a business unit that was producing automotive clocks and hourmeters. Datcon was later acquired by a holding company and merged with Industrias Jorda, S.L., the predecessor company that owned our AST brand.  Datcon acquired the Stewart Warner instruments-only busieness in 1998.

STEWART WARNERLegendary with automotive enthusiasts and racers, Stewart Warner brand instruments are now produced by Maxima. Datcon Instrument Company acquired Stewart Warner's instruments-only business in 1998 from the company who purchased the business from the previous owners, BTR, after which Maxima Technologies was formed.  Of particular note, Stewart brand speedometers were used on original Ford Model Ts dating to 1908.

AST:  Originated from Industrias Jorda, S.L., a company formed in the 1950s to serve the European tractor market. AST is the abbreviation of the founder’s wife’s name, Astrid. In 1994, Jorda was acquired by Datcon in order to add high-quality clusters and controls to our potfolio.
